Some might say apocalypse in 2012 ?
November 18, 2009 at 1:28 am | In Copy & Paste, Ear Candy, Hiatus Notice, Random Touché | 2 CommentsIt’s been a while I have not written my thoughts here. Maybe I was too occupied with my life (work, family, personal and others) vs. spending my time on the internet. Currently there is no big room for me to get a quality leisure time. I have stopped going consistently to the gym for a month since I travelled a lot for outstation works lately. I have a book to read but I can’t finish it within time because my brain has been focussing on work related things. My money has spent on unnecessary tuning on my car. So it leaves me just enough cash in the bank till next payday.
Looking back, some might say I have leading boring life with predictable outcome and I didn’t do brag-blogging which people usually do. Well, I don’t give damn on what “some might say”. Owh, “some might say” reminds me of the Oasis hits in the 90’s which still sounds fresh even now. I was listening to the track when I was writing this entry.

Title : Some Might Say
Some might say that sunshine follows thunder
Go and tell it to the man who cannot shine
Some might say that we should never ponder
On our thoughts today cos they will sway over time
Some might say we will find a brighter day
Some might say we will find a brighter day
Cos I’ve been standing at the station
In need of education in the rain
You made no preparation for my reputation once again
The sink is full of fishes
She’s got dirty dishes on the brain
It was overflowing gently but it’s all elementary my friend
Some might say they don’t believe in heaven
Go and tell it to the man who lives in hell
Some might say you get what you’ve been given
If you don’t get yours I won’t get mine as well
Some might say we will find a brighter day
Some might say we will find a brighter day
Cos I’ve been standing at the station
In need of education in the rain
You made no preparation for my reputation once again
The sink is full of fishes
Cos she’s got dirty dishes on the brain
And my dog’s been itchin’
Itchin’ in the kitchen once again
Some might say
Some might say
Some might say
Some might say
p/s: This is probably the last update before I crawl back to my hiatus. I will write back when I have free time again.
Are you bored and like to be silly?

Another usual hiatus hit my blog (See my non-existent entry for June). Finally, my escapade to cyberspace was approved and I’m posting this entry. Actually, I was about to write a proper malay entry but my proper malay isn’t at good level anymore compared during my school days which was over 10 years ago. Okay, I shall save that golden post later.
So, are you bored and like to be silly? Well, I stumbled upon a show called Bored in Bikinis which originated from our neighbour down south. It’s quite surprising that they actually produced this show although we have been perceived that most Singaporeans are known to be reserved and conservative except for their famous bloggers. Yeah, I was astonished as well after watching the clips and the first thing popped up in my mind was the Beavis and Butthead.

The similarities are obvious. There are 2 persons with same gender, living together and the episode starts when both them watching TV and start talking or doing non-sense. I don’t know if the producer of Bored in Bikinis is aware of the similarities or they actually took the concept and made their own version. I must say, the 4 minute clip is pleasing more men than the other gender and it’s quite silly to begin with as you watch 2 female in tiny clothing, talking and behaving like they were supposed not.
Nevertheless, I let you decide after watching the clips.

Sigh, One last thing from Josh Friedman

By now most of you have heard the news that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (T:SCC ) is cancelled. I received a call earlier today from Peter Roth at Warner Bros. and I appreciate both his personal and professional support throughout this show’s life. I know a lot of you are angry about the cancellation and want to find a place to direct your anger and to that I say do yourself a favor and find a way to move past it. Every network wants a big fat hit, especially one with a brand name behind it, and Fox was/is no different. They supported the show, they supported my vision of the show, and they gave it plenty of time to find an audience.
And what an audience we found: passionate, intelligent, kind of nuts in a good way. My only complaint about the T:SCC fans is that there aren’t ten million of them. But I prefer to be happy for the ones we had instead of lamenting the ones we didn’t.
Good shows are cancelled every year; smart shows, worthy shows, shows which move their viewers to write blogs and have viewing parties and create action figures and bury executives’ email accounts under thousands of messages. I miss Deadwood and The Wire and Arrested Development but thank God that I still have Rescue Me and The Office and a recently renewed Party Down written by ex-T:SCC writer John Enbom.
Bad shows are cancelled, too. And certainly there are those who did not like what we did and had their own vision for what a Terminator TV show should be. It’s easy to look at low ratings or cancellation as “failure” and for those who believe we’ve gone about this all wrong I’m sure today’s news will only serve to confirm a world view that I would never try to change. We’ve written the show as best we can, executed it to the best of our abilities, and sent it out in the world knowing that we worked out asses off to do something that wouldn’t be a waste of anybody’s forty-three minutes.
Thanks to a brave and talented cast, a feature crew working on a TV schedule, and everyone else who I could list but won’t because they know who they are. Mostly I’d like to thank those of you who’ve supported us and fought for us and given up hours of your life to watch our show. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about. The watching.
Hope we do it again soon.

Too Hot to Handle
May 12, 2009 at 11:31 pm | In Breaking News, Copy & Paste, Zippy Update | 3 CommentsHot, hot, hot till September!
By BEH YUEN HUI
KUALA LUMPUR: Temperatures have been rising all over the country, with Klang Valley (Subang) recording 35.6°C last Friday.
Outside the Klang Valley, Pahang (Batu Embun) experienced the hottest temperature last Thursday at 36.2°C.
The Meteorological Department said the hot and generally dry spell was expected to persist until September.
Department chief assistant director (central forecast office) Ahmad Zaki Mohamad Saad said the weather pattern was a usual phenomenon in the country.
He said that April and May were the hottest months according to climatology studies.
“The change of wind direction during the inter-monsoon season last month has caused the weather to be drier,’’ he said.
Ahmad Zaki said the country would experience the South-West monsoon from mid-May to September which usually brought a dry spell, he said.
He said although humid weather was forecast during the day, occasional rain and thunderstorms could be expected.
The maximum temperature is expected to range from 30.7°C to 34.1°C.

Title : The Girl Who Wanted to be God
There are no sunsets just silence
You could see that she was true and faithless
But see through the future and forget all the lies
Black out the words for the blind have eyes
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I am the girl who wanted to be God
There are times when you feel hopeless
Just for once for no-one else we are blameless
The dawn is still breaking its heaven is so high
She told the truth, told the truth and then she lied
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I am the girl who wanted to be God
Hold me she said love me to death
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I am the girl who wanted to be God
I pulled something random again, I love randomness, lol. The song was inspired from the title of chapter one in Anne Stevenson’s, ‘Bitter Fame: A life of Sylivia Plath’. Sylvia Plath is a poet (author of the Ariel poems) who explored holocaust imagery. She committed suicide on February 11th, 1963. Anyway, only now I just realised this song may intended as indirect sarcasm to this controversial poet. FYI my sister bought Manics album which included this song 11 years ago, yeah I know I’m such a slow-mo.

It’s Bar Rafaeli, the first Israeli supermodel ever made on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue front cover. Her name has become a household sensation and prior to her front cover debut, her picture covered a Boeing 737 of Southwest Airlines recently. As far as I remember there was not even one of the SI front cover girls made into commercial jet cover except for Bar. She’s currently dating actor Leonardo DiCaprio and once linked to a professional surfer Kelly Slater. How coincidence, Leo former girlfriend Gisele Bündchen also once associated with Kelly Slater too. Both Gisele and Bar are supermodel and what made me surprised is that Bar is barely 23 years old (note: Gisele is turning 29 this year) while her status and career is progressing mad like IDF forces raging towards innocent Palestinian children. Well, we all acknowledged that Jews around the world have dominated most of our modern day consumption. You name it Intel, Google, Coca Cola and etc. We are living in an era where we often bumped into jewish goods including Bar Rafaeli. To sum up, she is in the limelight where her popularity level is equivalent to the current Gaza Strip tension.

Our students score As in English at PMR or SPM levels but when it comes to college entrance examinations for UK and US, many of them fare badly.
THERE was a time when being a top public scorer meant getting 5As in the Lower Certificate of Examination (LCE) in Form Three and failing was not an option – it means dropping out of school at 15 years old or entering a private school to re-sit the examination.
Private schools were not elitist, unlike now, as they were perceived to be a place for failures, second-raters or students with disciplinary problems.
The LCE also required a candidate to pass Bahasa Malaysia and English as they were compulsory subjects. A distinction then really meant a distinction.
Then, there was the Malaysian Certificate of Examination (MCE) where a top student was equivalent to someone who scored 9As or 10As.
These were the students who eventually got scholarships to study in Harvard, Cambridge or Oxford, and their achievements would be published in the newspapers.
Before this, there were the Queen’s Scholars who were sent by the British to be educated in the United Kingdom.
We could recognise the best of the best. It was much simpler then trying to gauge the scholastic achievements of our students.
Now, we read of students in the UPSR for Year Six getting 7As while at the PMR level for Form Three students, they can get up to 9As. In the SPM, there are even those with 16As or more.
Wikipedia vs. Cambridge
November 1, 2008 at 1:10 pm | In Copy & Paste, Zippy Update | 2 CommentsHalf of Cambridge students admit cheating
Joanna Sugden
They go to one of the world’s most prestigious universities and pride themselves on their superior intellect but almost half of Cambridge students admit they are not immune from the temptation to cheat and submit essays they find on Google, a survey suggests.
The results of an anonymous online poll of more than 1,000 students conducted by the student newspaper Varsity found that 49 per cent of undergraduates pass other people’s work off as their own at some point during their university career.
Only 5 per cent said they had actually been caught plagiarising.
Academics in universities across the country have been accused by their peers of turning a blind eye to the practice to ensure their institutions climb national and international rankings.
One student told Varsity: “Sometimes, when I am really fed up, I Google the essay title, copy and throw everything on to a blank word document and jiggle the order a bit. They usually end up being the best essays.”
Law students were most prone to plagiarism with 62 per cent of those questioned admitting to breaking university rules.
Wikipedia, the open source encyclopedia, was the most popular source for undergraduate research with 82 per cent saying they used that instead of consulting books in the university’s copyright library which has the right to a copy of every book published in the UK.
Robert Foley, a professor in biological anthropology at King’s College Cambridge, said: “It is a depressing set of statistics.”
A university spokesman told Varsity that it regarded plagiarism as a “serious and potentially disciplinary offence which can lead to failure to obtain, or withdrawal of a degree”. He said the university was planning to introduce detection software to crack down on the problem.

All hail to the internet. We are in the age of copy pasta where plagiarism is the mother of modern age inventions. I now acknowledge the supremacy of Chinese Space Programme, lol.
