Good music is dead

It is now 11:27pm on Sunday. I have half an hour before Monday hits. Past 3 weeks till now, I lead one of the no fun and no nonsense days in my life. Nevertheless, the least I could do is to cherish people around me and I did. My new blog is good as dead. Sad but I’m moving on.
Again, I found a good to read newspaper article from Sunday Star dated 6th July 2008. Yeah I know it’s a backdated issue from last Sunday and my lazy fingers were unable to translate it into binary last week so here is a week late update.

I READ Martin Vengadesan’s column, The summer hits (and misses) (Music Myths & Legends, Variety, June 22) and I had a great laugh. It reminded me of the days I had to endure the torture of listening to those crappy tunes on a bus, in a shopping mall or at a school event.
Anyway, all I can say about today’s music is that there is no sincerity let alone originality. I may not have the best taste or knowledge but one thing I know is that I am not inspired by what I hear today, both locally and internationally.
We used to have tons of great bands up to the 1990s but since 2000, everyone has been just too obsessed about being different. To put it simply, today’s musicians are trying too hard, which is why you don’t feel any sincerity or inspiration.
You can listen to Led Zeppelin many years from now, but can you listen to Linkin Park in 20 years to come, or Maroon 5, or Avril Lavigne, or that stupid Ashley Simpson? And, yeah, the list goes on.
